How About An Organic Six Pack?

New EU Study Shows Organic Food Is Way Better

The seemingly ever-raging debate over whether organic food is healthier than conventionally grown food may be over! I recently read an article on Times Online (October 28, 2007) that reported on the results of a four-year, £12-million European-Union-funded study into organic food.

The researchers grew fruit and vegetables, and raised cattle, on adjacent organic and non-organic sites in North England. The results of the study showed that:

  • Organic fruit and vegetables contain up to 40 percent more antioxidants
  • Organic produce had higher levels of beneficial minerals like iron and zinc
  • Milk from organic herds contained up to 90 percent more antioxidants.

The UK’s Food Standards Agency, which has formerly said that there is no difference between organic and conventional foods, is reviewing the research findings.

My comments:

I have personally been eating organic food for the last six years and have found that above all, it simply tastes better than commercially raised food – it’s just really nice! The fact that it tastes, richer, to me, intuitively tells me it is better for me.

If you’re looking to develop a flat stomach there are a few good reasons to go organic:

  1. Organic food contains fewer pesticides. Pesticides are fat-soluble chemicals and can therefore be bound up in your body fat stores. If you have a build up of these chemicals in your fat cells, it is much harder to get rid of the fat!
  2. Pesticides can act like hormones in the body, especially estrogen. Too much estrogen can cause weight gain, water retention and bloating.
  3. Because organic food contains more nutrients, your hormone and detox systems will naturally work better and you’ll be able to produce more energy in your body. This will help you feel great and ensure that your body will adapt to exercise better.

Getting the Good Stuff – Local is Best!

If you want to get truly fresh, nutrient-rich foods, seek out farmers and local producers. Try to stick to eating food that comes from your community, and from nature. Eat meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and more that come from a farmer you trust, according to your Metabolic Type and you will thrive!

These are the people who are growing your food, and only by speaking with them and establishing a rapport will you truly know if your food is being raised with integrity and health in mind.

Local farmers’ markets can be a great place to start. In the UK, stores such as Planet Organic and Fresh & Wild can be great.

You can also order locally grown food for delivery – Google “Organic Food Deliver” and you’ll find loads of great suppliers. Find one or two you like and let them go to work for you.

Save Money

By doing business directly with these people you’ll also find that you’ll save lots of money, because there is no middle man.
