5 Top Fat-Burning Tips To Uncover Your Six Pack

by Greg Hollings

Around this time of year, and especially after the festive season, thousands and thousands of very determined people sign up for their latest foray into the  world of fitness (aka the gym), hoping that this is the year they will discover the secret to burning away the fat quickly and keeping it off.

The truth is that everyone has a six pack. It’s part of your body’s musculature. It’s just that not many people know what to do in order to be able to show theirs off to the world.

The bottom line is this; you will only shed the fat and keep it off, if you exercise regularly to burn up the calories. It’s that simple. What many people find hard is doing the actual work to get there!

Here are 5 tips to help you burn fat that will help you reveal your six pack…

1. Don’t Diet.

Diets don’t work. Dramatically cutting calories, especially for women, is not a sustainable nor healthy way to burn the fat. Instead eat meals that comprise of whole, unprocessed foods which include a balanced amount of meat, veggies and fats such as nuts, seeds and oils.

2. Eat Regular Snacks.

This will convince your body to avoid going in to starvation mode. If you give your body regular healthy nourishment it will keep your blood sugar levels balanced which means you’ll avoid those energy slumps and cravings for a sugary “pick me up”.

3. Kings, Princes and Paupers.

The old saying that you should breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince and dine like a Pauper is an apt one for helping you to burn fat. Make your biggest meals the first two meals of the day and your evening meal the smallest in size. It’s also a good idea to eat three hours before going to bed to give your body time to digest and also ensure your blood sugar levels will remain stable throughout the night.

4. Raise Your Metabolism by Doing Weights.

The cells in your muscles require a lot of fuel. To that effect, doing exercises that increase the size of those muscle cells and make them work harder and more frequently, will increase your metabolism for quicker fat loss. There is plenty of research that tells us that your metabolism will stay at an elevated level for up to 4 hours after a weights session.

5. Complete High Intensity Circuit Workouts.

The idea is for your muscles to become completely fuel inefficient meaning that they burn it fast and furiously. A supervised circuit of between 12-15 weight-lifting exercises completed at maximum pace for 30 seconds per exercise with no rest period will push your body to its limit. It’s best to use a weight that represents roughly 60% of the maximum you can lift for that particular exercise. Do this three or four times a week and you’re in danger of becoming very lean!

It can be very frustrating and demoralising when you’re trying your hardest to burn fat but you’re just not seeing the results you would like. These tips are based on the clinical research conducted by some of the best strength and conditioning coaches in the world, with the aim of helping you become fit and lean so that you can admire the six pack on yourself that you’ve always longed for.

  2. I’d appreciate it if you can suggest some meals/menu that are good for the abs and yet affordable.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Hi Elyse,

I recommend locally grown, seasonal whole foods preferably from your local organic farmer.

I don’t know what your budget is but organic produce sold directly from the farm is likely to be the same price if not cheaper than organic brands found in the supermarket.

On the About page on my website I say I make a mean Lamb stew so I better give you the recipe and you can try it for yourself!

This recipe is full of natural wholesome goodness and doesn’t have any preservatives or additives which can sabotage your flat abs plan.

    Ingredients: Serves 4

    2 Cinnamon sticks
    1/2 teaspoon of turmeric
    1/2 teaspoon of cumin
    1 teaspoon of ground ginger
2 pinches each of salt and peppar
A large handful of fresh, roughly cut, coriander
    1 tablespoon of honey
1 kg of lamb. I think the neck fillets are the best for a good flavour.
    1.5 pints of water
    2 teaspoons of harissa paste
    4-5 small shallots (350 grammes)
    Sesame seeds (optional)

    Instructions:

Cut the lamb into bite sized chunks and add to a large pot.

    Add the spices and coriander

Add the 1.5 pints of water

Give the contents a good stir and then heat on the stove until boiling. Then reduce heat to let it simmer and cover for 60 mins.

After an hour add the shallots and let it simmer for another 30 minutes.

After those 30 mins are up add the honey, stir and let it simmer for another 30 mins.

Add the harissa paste when the 2 hours are up, stir and let it simmer for a couple more minutes.

    Sprinkle on the sesame seeds.

You can serve with vegetables or rice or eat on it’s own.

This dish will probably cost around £18-20 or USD 40 for 4 people.

    Enjoy!

  5. This is some of the better advice I’ve seen going around. Too many people think they need to starve to loose weight…or do tons of cardio. You can find it elsewhere if you look. I recommend looking at the Abs Diet, which is essentially the same thing (not really a diet per se). It will give you some good exercise routines and a bunch more recipes/ingredient suggestions. Fairly close to the tips above.
