5 Things You Can Do Today For Better Looking Abs
by Greg HollingsTraditional thinking dictates that to achieve a better looking set of abs you need to spend hours upon hours sweating it out in the gym.
That’s not necessarily true. In fact, if you do some of the great abdominal exercise programs found on this blog as part of your regular exercise program you can spend as little 45 minutes 4 times a week exercising. That’s 3 hours per week, which is a small investment for a good looking return i.e. a flat stomach!
To help maximise the effectiveness of what you do in the gym, I’ve added few simple steps you can take everyday to help your stomach look flatter….
1. Stand Up Straight
Poor posture usually means that your head and shoulders are in a forward position. This shortens the distance between your chest and your hips: anything in between sticks out!
2. Use A Visual Cue
If you stick a red dot on your PC screen that reminds you to sit up straight every time you see it, you will gradually form a good habit of sitting straight at your desk. Not only will this make your stomach look slimmer it will release some of the tension in your neck and shoulders.
3. Drink Water
Keep a 2 litre bottle of good quality water e.g. Evian on your desk everyday. This should be the minimum amount of water that most people need to drink everyday. Water helps digestion, reducing constipation and bloating which helps to stop your stomach sticking out.
4. Breathe To Relax
Over-eating to combat stress is a surefire way to put on weight rapidly. When we’re stressed our breathing rate shortens and quickens. Every time you take a break away from your desk try taking 10 deep slow breaths to help yourself relax.
5. Get Plenty Of Sleep
A good night’s rest will help you to wake up feeling refreshed and energised thus reducing the need to rush for the muffin and latte. When we’re tired, the quality of our decision-making reduces which in turn can affect our food choices - leading us to make poorer choices than we might otherwise make. Bad food choices have a direct impact on how your stomach looks and feels.
These simple actions - none of which take that much effort at all - are easily integrated into your everyday routine and as part of your overall wellbeing program will help to flatten your stomach.
