Get Rid of Your Belly Fat by Ditching the Diet Foods

by Katrina Eden

Yep, you read that right. A recent study has shown (and not for the first time) that consumption of artificial sweeteners and other diet or low-fat packaged foods is definitely contributing to weight gain!

Now, sure, this study talks about the effects of artificial sweeteners on rats, but that doesn’t mean you should be dissuaded from paying it close attention. The proof is in the pudding, after all (or lack thereof ☺).

The fact is, over the years I’ve seen many clients drop weight from around their belly when they ditched the diet and low-fat foods.

So get rid of the gum, stop guzzling the diet soda, and put down the low-fat yogurt immediately!

Still not convinced? Here are some things to think about…

  • Artificial sweeteners are treated just like any synthetic or man-made chemical that enters your body: as a toxin. If you read last week’s post ‘The Truth About Bad Fats: What not to Eat for Flat Abs’ , you’ll know that toxins are stored in your fat cells in order to protect your vital organs. This causes those cells to expand!
  • Artificial sweeteners don’t just trick your taste-buds; they are actually so good at their job, that they convince your hormonal system that sugar has entered your body. This causes your body to dump insulin into your bloodstream, triggering fat storage. Eeeek!
  • Artificial sweeteners clog and slow your digestive system, causing other (even healthy) substances in your colon to get stuck in transit (so to speak!). This can make your stomach look soft and poochy regardless of how much fat is or isn’t sitting on top of it.
  • Chewing gum and sugar-free lollies taken on an empty stomach cause an acidic reaction that disrupts your stomach lining and can cause increased appetite later in the day.

Add to this the fact that most sugar-free products contain known carcinogens, and I’d say you’ve got more than enough reasons to go natural instead! Stay tuned next week for a post on how to manage your sweet tooth without ruining your Flat Abs plan.
